Newcastle United stars make it into ‘Whoscored’ Premier League team of week


A number of Newcastle United stars were contenders for a Premier League team of the week.

Eddie Howe’s players producing that excellent gutsy win at Craven Cottage despite so many players unavailable.

A poor first half but then far better after the break, Newcastle United the better team and the one creating far more and better chances.

A massive bonus that the win came with a clean sheet.

Newcastle stopper Martin Dubravka was awarded the Player of the Match award, with a rating of 8.52, when his side beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage on Saturday, making a total of five saves on his way to keeping his third clean sheet of the season.

Pedro Porro (Tottenham) – 7.70

Tottenham dominate the backline in this week’s best XI with two representatives following their 3-1 home victory over Nottingham Forest. The first of which is Pedro Porro. The Spurs full-back managed to get himself on the scoresheet with a goal from his only attempt of the game, as well as getting stuck in with two tackles, two clearances and one interception.

Micky Van De Ven (Tottenham) – 8.05

The second Spurs player in the side is Micky Van De Ven, who was awarded Player of the Match for his performance against Forest. The Dutch centre back also found the back of the net with a thunderous strike to put Tottenham back in front at the start of the first half. Aside from the goal, the 22-year-old also completed 94% of his 71 attempted passes as well as winning three aerial duels and making five successful tackles.

Fabian Schar (Newcastle) – 7.62

It was yet another commanding and assured performance from Newcastle’s Fabian Schar in the win over Fulham. The Swiss defender won 100% of his five aerial battles and completed three tackles. He also made a total of 13 clearances, the fourth highest total of any player in a single Premier League match this season.

Vitalii Mykolenko (Everton) – 7.47

Everton claimed three important points when they faced Sean Dyche’s old side Burnley at Goodison Park. Vitalii Mykolenko was very impressive throughout with the Ukrainian winning 100% of his five tackles as well as making five clearances and one interception in the shut out.

Marcus Tavernier (Bournemouth) – 7.73

Despite an away defeat against Luton for Bournemouth, Marcus Tavernier put in his best performance since the 3-0 win over Manchester United back in December. Tavernier opened the scoring at Kenilworth Road, at the start of the second half, with one of his three attempts but the Cherries couldn’t hold on for three points.

Kevin De Bruyne (Man City) – 9.85

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is the WhoScored.com Premier League Player of the Week with a rating of 9.85. The Belgian bagged himself two goals and one assist in the 4-2 win over Crystal Palace as well as making four key passes and winning two tackles.

Jordan Clark (Luton) – 8.48

Luton recorded their first win since January, coming from behind to claim all three points against Bournemouth. Jordan Clark’s 73rd-minute effort pulled the Hatters level before Carlton Morris completed the comeback late on. Clark won three aerial duels, three tackles and made three key passes in the win.

Luis Diaz (Liverpool) – 8.24

Liverpool were held by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday and were made to settle for a draw after Luis Diaz put the Reds one goal to the good in the first half. United struck back with two goals in the second half before Mo Salah secured a point from the spot with six minutes to go. Diaz caused the United back line all kinds of problems throughout completing six dribbles in the game, at least four more than any other player in the fixture.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) – 8.51

There were six goals when Aston Villa hosted Brentford at Villa Park on Saturday with the spoils shared. Ollie Watkins took his Premier League tally to 18 for the season with a brace against his former club. The England striker scored both of his two attempts at goal on top of winning three aerial duels in the 3-3 thriller.

Kai Havertz (Arsenal) – 8.77

Kai Havertz continues to go from strength to strength under Mikel Arteta for Arsenal and that was clear for all to see at the AMEX in Arsenal’s 3-0 win. The German forward scored and provided an assist in the routine victory, as well as making for key passes and winning three aerial duels in the contest.
